Troy-Miami County Public Library Announces Summer Programs for School-Aged Kids and Families

This summer, Troy-Miami County Public Library is inviting families to explore, create, discover, and play through a variety of engaging programs designed for school-aged children and families as part of the 2026 Summer Reading Challenge, Unearth a Story.

From science experiments and outdoor adventures to dinosaur digs and reading with a therapy dog, the library’s summer lineup encourages curiosity, creativity, and hands-on learning all season long.

STEAM Lab

Young innovators can “unearth” their inner scientist during weekly STEAM Lab sessions featuring hands-on experiments and activities focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. Designed for elementary students in grades K–5, this drop-in program will take place Wednesdays from 1–2 p.m. beginning June 10 through July 22.

Nature Cat Adventures

Inspired by the beloved Nature Cat series and presented in partnership with Think TV PBS, Nature Cat Adventures will help children explore the wonders of the outdoors through activities such as nature art, animal tracking, and environmental stewardship.

Perfect for children ages 4–9, this weekly drop-in program will be held Thursdays from 10–11 a.m. beginning June 11 through July 23.

Dino Dig – Super-Fun Saturday

Families can join the library for a prehistoric adventure during Dino Dig, part of the library’s Super-Fun Saturday series. Children will have the opportunity to dig through dirt and sand in search of fossilized dinosaur bones and other surprises.

This family-friendly event will take place Saturday, June 13 from 1–2 p.m. Weather permitting, the program will be held in the park behind the library. No registration is required.

Lego Builders

Elementary students in grades K–5 are invited to take a break from the summer heat and put their creativity and engineering skills to work during Lego Builders. Participants will enjoy building challenges along with free-building time.

The program will take place Tuesday, June 16 from 6–7 p.m. Registration is required beginning June 2 through the library’s online calendar at www.tmcpl.org.

Paws to Read – Summer with Jax

Readers of all ages can practice their reading skills in a fun and encouraging environment with Jax, a certified therapy dog from the Miami Valley Pet Therapy Association. Handler Michelle Eilerman and Jax will visit the library Mondays from 1–2 p.m. on June 8, 15, 22, and 29, and July 6, 13, and 20.

No registration is required for this drop-in program.
