Crab rangoons are great, my kids absolutley love them but sometimes you want something with all the amazing flavor just a little heartier. That’s where this Crab Rangoon Grilled Cheese comes in, it gives you the delicious taste of a crab rangoon but will fill you up like a meal.
Creamy. Crispy. Sweet. Savory. This Crab Rangoon Grilled Cheese is everything you love about your favorite appetizer—stuffed between two slices of golden, buttery bread and dunked in sweet & sour sauce. It’s indulgent, comforting, and wildly addictive.

Ingredients (Makes 2 sandwiches)
Crab Rangoon Filling
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- ½ cup crab meat (real or imitation), chopped
- 1 green onion, finely sliced
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ¼ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp white pepper (or black pepper)
- Green onions (optional)
Pro Tip: Don’t want to make the filling? Just grab Crab Rangoon Dip at your local Aldi and use that instead!
Sandwich
- 4 slices of sourdough bread (you need a hearty bread to withstand the filling)
- 1½ cups shredded mozzarella or white American cheese
- 2 tbsp butter, softened
For Serving
- Sweet & sour sauce (store-bought or homemade)
Instructions
1. Make the Crab Rangoon Filling
In a bowl, mix together the cream cheese, crab meat, green onion, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until smooth and creamy. Set aside.
2. Assemble the Sandwiches
- Butter one side of each slice of bread.
- Flip two slices butter-side down.
- Add a layer of shredded cheese.
- Spoon on a generous amount of crab rangoon filling.
- Add another layer of cheese.
- Top with remaining bread, butter-side up.
3. Grill to Golden Perfection
Heat a skillet over medium-low heat.
Cook sandwiches for 3–4 minutes per side, pressing gently, until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is fully melted.
Tip: Low and slow is key—this keeps the filling creamy and prevents burning.
4. Slice & Dip
Remove from pan, let rest 1 minute, then slice in half.
Serve hot with sweet & sour sauce on the side for dipping.
Pro Tip: Feeling spicy? Add a dash of sriracha to the cream cheese mixture.
Final Verdict
This sandwich is unapologetically rich, wildly satisfying, and 100% worth the mess. Perfect for comfort-food nights, weekend lunches, or impressing guests who think grilled cheese can’t be fancy.
