So you want to set up a blog, but not any blog. You want to set up a blog that you can hopefully monetize in the future and have chosen to go the route of the self-hosted WordPress blog!
Well, you are in great company, many other bloggers (including this one) and companies use self-hosted WordPress sites in order to custom make their own websites and with WordPress the opportunities are endless! In fact, WordPress is known for being the #1 content management system and is said to account for about 25% of all websites!
Now for a beginner, I can understand how this can seem like a difficult and daunting task, but it’s really not that bad. In fact, I can break down for you in just a few easy steps! So read on and follow these directions to set up your own Self Hosted WordPress Blog!
For this tutorial, I am using the web host Siteground. They are who I personally use and they make the blog transition very easy!

Find A Host: This is where your website is housed! You do pay a yearly fee for hosting services. For this tutorial, I am using my personal favorite, Siteground. Click here to set up hosting through Siteground (this is an affiliate link).
Choose Your Plan. Once you go to the Siteground website you will have the ability to choose a few different hosting options. They vary by the amount of space and give an estimate at which package you need by potential visitors to the site in a month!
Get Your Domain Name: If you haven’t already purchased the domain name you can through Siteground which makes it super easy and streamlined. If you have already purchased your domain, it’s ok you can change the DNS through the registrar or transfer it over to Siteground.
Fill Out The Information: Once you have settled on a package, fill out your information and you will also have the option to purchase the domain if need be. It’s a pretty easy and streamlined setup! You can also choose extras like domain privacy if you would like.
Install WordPress: The easiest way to setup WordPress is to open a support ticket and have the Siteground team install it for you! It’s super easy just log in to Siteground and go to the Support tab. Scroll down to request assistance from our team and expand the selection by clicking on the +. Then select WordPress Assistance. This will open an email to their helpdesk and just type that you need help downloading WordPress to the host. They will get this done and email you once complete!
Pick Out A Theme: Once WordPress is installed you can select a theme. Go to Appearance on the left-hand side of your dashboard and find themes. Click on it and then hit Add New at the top. Now you can scroll through free themes. You can also search by a variety of options. Once you find a theme you like, hover over it, and hit the install button. A confirmation message will appear, then hit the activate button! Now you have a theme!
Start Blogging: Now that you have everything set up you are ready to start blogging! To write your first blo just go to the left-hand side of the dashboard and click posts, then click add new. You will then see on the main screen the back end of your blog, complete with room for title and space to write!
