Grilled cheese is a mom’s best friend. Especially on days when dinner is running late or you are out of ideas on what to serve for lunch. Even if you have a picky eater, there aren’t many foods kids love more than the ooey gooey goodness of a grilled cheese sandwich. But, the same grilled cheese can get a little repetitive, so we have come up with some great ways to put a delicious spin on a timeless recipe.
Change Your Bread: If you are making grilled cheese with normal sandwich bread you are missing out. Go for a savory, dense bread like sourdough or multigrain as a base for your sandwich. These slices of bread soak up any extra moisture, impart additional flavor and make for a more filling grilled cheese.
Get Creative with Toppings: There isn’t much that doesn’t taste good with bread and cheese so you really have the opportunity to get creative with grilled cheese add-ins. Sauteed spinach, mushrooms and onions make a delicious sandwich addition. Or add turkey pepperoni and a smidge of pizza sauce for a pizza inspired sandwich. Use whatever you have on hand and find a combination you love.
